For my Master Thesis I developed a game with a fellow student of mine, Konstantin Rudolph. The topic of the thesis was discussing the question whether students might learn and remember content better when embedded into a game instead of simply learning through books and exercise sheets.
With that in mind we created a vertical slice of an educational mobile game in which the players step into the role of a Chasqui, a messenger in the Incan empire.
The game combines relaying facts about the ancient Incan empire and its culture with an entertaining jump and run game: at the beginning of each round the player gets a message from a previous runner that he has to carry and hand off to the next runner. These messages contain information about the Inca empire and along the way the player has to answer multiple choice questions regarding the contents of the current and previous messages. At the end of the round the time is measured that the player took to deliver the message. Wrong answers along the way as well as stumbling across obstacles lead to delays.
The character design was inspired by Incan art, especially figurines, and the UI was inspired by Incan fabrics.
